'From a fun filled excursion day with my 4yr old to Chesterfield Farm in Melbourne's outer east, to the cover of Australia's premier magazine for Drawing Photography and Painting, these roosters have certainly been a surprise! With my cheap Ebay Olympus camera in hand, and an overcast (usual) Melbourne day, I didn't think that I would get any good reference photo's. When I returned home, two shots of these chookies stood out.....and so the story begins! |
The process of writing an article is and interesting one. After my initial write up, I would have written and re-written it half a dozen times, each time, refine my words, ensuring that I was getting the points across that were relevant, and covering all of the questions that the publisher requires you to cover! What I have is just right now.....and after a few people did some proof reading, off it went to Woodland Publishing.
I tried to imagine what I would like to know about the artists that I revere, and what inspires and moves them......I hope I have succeeded.
To think that you have been given such a brilliant opportunity is very humbling. To walk into a newsagency, to the art mag section, and see something that you have created from nothing is quite moving. And the joy is even more fun shared! My 4yr old loves it....and happily tells everyone that he chose the roosters and made them pose like that! lol.
It is overwhelming to be given a voice- the artist is no longer faceless, and the work becomes loved and inspected by all.
The other amazing thing that happens when you are published, is you begin to appreciate, finally, all of the hundreds of hours that you have put into something that you are so passionate about. To see dozens of your works, carefully designed into a mural of effort, sprawling from one page to the next......is quite emotional. I remember every single drawing, where I was, what I was thinking, what state of mind I was in, and, whether I feel that I failed or succeeded at the challenge I set for myself.
And you also begin to accept that you have a style and it is yours and your alone.....and THAT is the most rewarding part. Whether it is good or bad art is not for me to decide. I will continue to do what I think is beautiful, regardless of what others say.....and share along the way, praying deep deep down, that someone likes what I have done.............
Creative Artist Issue 7 is all one big validation of the above. I truly hope that you enjoy having a cuppa, a read and a look at many many hours of effort and inspiration from one human , with no intention other than to create beauty.
